What Is Ortho-K?

Ortho-K lenses, also known as orthokeratology lenses, are a non-surgical treatment option for refractive errors. They use specially designed rigid contact lenses worn overnight to temporarily reshape the surface of the cornea. During the day, users can remove the lenses and experience significantly improved vision without the need for glasses or daytime contact lenses.

How Ortho-K Works
  • The corneal surface is gently reshaped by the special design of the lenses, adjusting the curvature of the cornea.
  • After a period of wear, usually 6–8 hours, the cornea temporarily changes shape, allowing the eye to focus light properly onto the retina and improving vision.
  • The effect lasts until the cornea gradually returns to its original shape, typically for 12–24 hours. Therefore, Ortho-K lenses need to be worn regularly every night to maintain the results.
